MINNEAPOLIS, Mar 01, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high-quality online degree programs for working adults, announced that it has restructured its Bachelor of Science online degree programs in Business, Information Technology, Psychology, and Public Safety. The curriculum changes are designed to provide a better learning experience by offering a broader range of topics and updating course content to ensure its continued relevancy in today's job market. The revised programs also offer increased flexibility and credit transferability, which can help reduce the time and cost of finishing a bachelor's degree.
"As we regularly do with all of our degree programs, we reviewed and revised our Bachelor of Science programs to ensure they remain relevant with today's educational and on-the-job requirements," said Feranda Williamson, EdD, dean of Capella's School of Undergraduate Studies. "We've updated individual course content, but also added courses to provide students with greater flexibility, choice, and convenience. In the process, we were also able to restructure the courses to help students from community colleges and other associate degree programs maximize the credits they receive for coursework already completed, which can help reduce the time and cost of completing their bachelor's degree."
Degree enrichment options reduce costs and expand educational and career opportunities Capella also offers a variety of degree enrichment options that make it more affordable for many students to add value to their bachelor's degree, or pursue a master's degree. In many bachelor's specializations, for example, students can increase their knowledge and career options by adding concentrations or additional specializations to their program.
For those who wish to pursue a master's degree, the online university's bachelor's-to-master's tuition discount program provides a discount on Capella master's degree credits to graduates of Capella bachelor's degree programs. Depending on the number of bachelor's credits taken at Capella, this can result in a discount of up to 45 percent on every master's level course.
In addition, Capella's Combined Bachelor's/Master's options offers eligible students the opportunity to earn master's level credits during their bachelor's programs. This can result in thousands of dollars in savings over pursuing each degree separately and reduce the time to complete a master's degree at Capella by up to two quarters.
As of Dec. 31, 2011, more than 37,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella, with nearly 80 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs and master's degree programs.
